Soul Campaign - Application

[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Aladdin. Also known as "Al", and pretended to be "Prince Ali Ababwa".
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Fandom: Disney's Aladdin
Timeline: From after the first movie.
History: Here and here. (While Aladdin is just after the first movie, I am considering him as being taken from the whole "canon" that includes the sequels and TV show. But, while I'll be using the bits on Aladdin's background that we learn, personality-wise I'll be followed just the first movie as a guide.)

Character Personality:
Aladdin shows a cocky and confident front to the world. He's street smart, capable, and highly athletic - so he has good reason for the confidence. He's adventurous and often makes rash and risky decisions. He tends to jumps into situations without really thinking about it beforehand, even though he's very intelligent and street smart (usually he uses his head to get himself out of the scrapes he finds himself in, as opposed to using it to make sure he doesn't get into them in the first place). He's also very passionate, and isn't easily cowed.

But in contrast, Aladdin has a lot of insecurities, particularly about his social status in life. He wants to be more than the street rat he's been all his life, and is secretly frustrated when other people don't give him the change to show them that there's more to him.

Aladdin wants acceptance from other people - and this desire of his often results in him showing other people what he thinks they want to see, rather than just being himself. And, while after the events of the first movie Aladdin is much more comfortable with being himself, he will still revert back to that habit of trying to conform to what other people want in particularly uncomfortable situations.

Aladdin's also very brave and compassionate - he'll often risk himself without hesitation to save or help other people. This isn't a front he puts on as part of his desire for acceptance, though - he's just naturally this way. Aladdin will help people even when it means risking the scorn of others (like Prince Achmed aka "horse with two rear ends" guy).

Aladdin's also got a definite mischievous streak - and the ability to be very sneaky and underhanded. He'll say needling comments about his enemies and friends, trick people into doing what he wants, and generally joke around. When just hanging around, Aladdin's fairly relaxed and pretty good company. But he's not above being manipulative to get ahead, and he can often be very cheeky while he's going about it.

Character Abilities:
Aladdin never had any formal education, so he learned everyone he knows on the streets. This gives him more street smarts than traditional book smarts. He is very clever and creative, giving him the ability to come up with plans and excuses. He can think on his feet (or as he calls it, "improvising"), and this is usually how he gets out of trouble.

He is perceptive and intelligent - he is the one who notices that the Sultan is being controlled by Jafar. He is also able to recognise that touching the gold in the cave of wonders would be a really bad idea, on account of being a giant magical cave which could quite clearly crush him.

Aladdin is also manipulative, and will use this to his advantage - such as when he tricks the Genie into letting him out of the cave without using a wish, and tricks Jafar into trapping himself as a Genie.

While Aladdin is physically fit and acrobatic, he isn't excessively large or muscular. He tends to use his head and agility to get out of fights and scrapes.

He also has quite a few skills which have helped him in his past life as a thief - he can use slight of hand or distraction in order to steal food, and he can also pick locks.

Character Weaknesses:
Having had no formal education, Aladdin's way behind on academic skills like mathematics. And while he does show evidence of reading in the TV show, he most likely learned this from Jasmine - and, as I'm taking him from just after the first movie, at this point Jasmine wouldn't have had time to teach him anything. So, I'm assuming that he can't read.

He's also rather insecure about his social status. He hides it well with feigned confidence, but the fact is he worried so much about Jasmine not liking him because of him being a street rat that he went to extreme lengths to hide this from her. He always worries about appearing uneducated and uncouth, and about people judging him because of his background. This can sometimes result in him telling people what he thinks they want to hear. He is better about this after having met the Genie and Jasmine, but it is still an issue for him.

Aladdin also has that weakness which is the eternal scourge of guys with girlfriends: putting his foot in it. While he can be and often is very charming, he can also just say the wrong thing.

[ WEAPON SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Weapon: Because I already have two Meisters While Aladdin could be a meister as well, he's also the kinda guy to put other people's needs before his own - he's been known to give food to starving kids when he's starving himself. He's also thrown himself headlong into danger to save others - as such, he'd be suited to being a Weapon and protecting a Meister.

What is your character's Weapon form?:
Aladdin is an urumi aka a coiled sword, with three long flexible blades connected to a handle. The coiled sword is used more like a whip than a traditional sword, and can be curled up into a bundle or wrapped around his Meister's waist.

The three blades can each move independently, although this takes significant effort on Aladdin's part. Also, while the blades will easily slice the enemy, they won't ever harm his Meister. He can also transform his arms into the coiled sword's blades.

But Aladdin's main "ability" is to make his meister and what they're doing unnoticeable. Not invisible - they can still be spotted by the highly observant, someone actively looking for them, or just bad luck.

At first, this will be only when he's worn around his Meister's waist. Then at stronger level's, he'll be able to employ this when drawn - and at even stronger levels, while actually in battle, making it so that if an opponent gets distracted by something else for long enough, they'd have to concentrate very hard to locate Aladdin and his Meister again.

At full resonance, Aladdin will be able to make it so that opponents must actively keep a close eye on Aladdin and his meister in order to be able to follow what they're doing. Looking away for a moment can mean not being able to find them the next. Following what Aladdin's meister is doing becomes very difficult. Essentially, it makes it so that enemies have to be constantly giving Aladdin and his Meister their full attention in order to not be on the end of any surprise attacks.

[ SAMPLES ]

First Person:
[voice]
Genie? Look, this is not funny, alright? Come on, you can't have gotten that bored with traveling already! Not that I don't want you visiting or anything, but could you have at least waited until after my engagement party before deciding to play "fight the witches?!"

Genie?

Genie?

...

GENIE!

[sounding rather nervous now] O-kay, you come come out now Genie. Because I'd really like to know that Jafar hasn't somehow escaped and brought me to...wherever here is.

Third Person:
Aladdin had never seen anything like the mall. He'd thought Agrabah's markets were the best place to find strange and exotic things, but they had nothing on this place. And like any self-respecting street rat, Aladdin usually presented a disinterest in the wonders the markets had to offer - but here? He looks just like Jasmine had when she came to Agrabah's markets - wide-eyed and amazed at everything.

And the best part? There was food. Everywhere! Like that little kid over there that just ran off and left half a chicken on his plate! Were these guys so rich they could afford to just throw it away?

Hey, if they had that much money to spare, they wouldn't mind if Aladdin helped himself to a little. Especially if they never saw him take it. (Had Aladdin been more familiar with just how much Shibusen would help out the people brought to Death City by BREW, he'd have known that he could actually just get the food for free. By asking. But he didn't, and so he resorted to the techniques he'd used to survive for eighteen years on the streets of Agrabah - blatant thievery.)

He walked up to one food stand, charmed the sales assistant while he pretended to be deciding what to eat, and then sniped one of her cakes when she was distracted by another customer.

Making a quick getaway, Aladdin grinned. Time for lunch!
