Plot of Aladdin on Wikipedia | Background on Wikipedia | Background on Disney Wiki
Aladdin grew up on the streets of Agrabah, largely on his own. His father Cassim left when he was an infant to try and find a better life for their family and never returned, while his mother was captured by bandits when he was two years old, and most likely was killed. While growing up Aladdin received no formal education at all, and had to learn to steal in order to survive. When he was sixteen, he met a group of circus performers and their monkey Abu, who would decide to stay with Aladdin after the circus performers became trapped in a magical stone (and when Aladdin turned out to be an infinitely better friend to Abu).
Later when he's 18 years old, Aladdin has been wishing for a way out of his life and to have people see him as more than just a 'worthless street rat' who won't ever amount to anything. His life does indeed change, when he spots a young women getting into trouble with a merchant at the marketplace, who has accused her of stealing. Aladdin rescues her from her predicament, and the two run back to Aladdin's home and strike up a bond (and quickly fall for each other).
However, they are interrupted by the Sultan's guards, who soon grab Aladdin. The young woman then reveals herself to be Princess Jasmine to a stunned Aladdin and Razoul, but she in unable to make the guards release Aladdin because their orders came from Jafar.
Aladdin is tossed into the dungeon, where he meets and old man (who unknown to him is really Jafar in disguise). The old man tells Aladdin about the Cave of Wonders, and helps him escape in exchange for his help in retrieving its treasure - specifically, a lamp. They travel to the desert, where Aladdin enters the cave after being told to touch 'nothing but the lamp'. Inside, Aladdin meets Carpet, who helps him to find the lamp - but, just as he reaches the lamp Abu touches the forbidden treasure, angering the Cave. The Cave starts to turn to lava, and with Carpet's help they nearly reach the exit. They are struck by a rock just before they can escape though, leaving Aladdin clinging to a ledge. He asks the Jafar for help, but Jafar insists on receiving the lamp first - and once he has it, he tries to kill Aladdin though. He is stopped by Abu, but Aladdin and Abu still fall down back into the Cave.
When Aladdin wakes up, he finds that they are trapped - but, Abu had managed to steal the lamp from Jafar. It looks like a piece of junk, but when Aladdin rubs it Genie appears, telling Aladdin that he is now Genie's master and he will grant Aladdin three wishes (excluding killing people, making someone fall in love, or bringing back the dead). Aladdin manages to trick Genie into getting them out of the cave without using a wish, and Genie brings them to an oasis. Aladdin learns that Genie wants to be free, promises that he will use his final wish to free Genie, and wishes to become a Prince. He gets a fancy new outfit, and Abu is transformed into an elephant.
Aladdin then makes a grand entrance in Agrabah as Prince Ali, where he charms the Sultan quickly. But Jafar is less than impressed - as is Jasmine, who didn't appreciate all of them discussing her future as if she were a prize to be won. Genie then tries to convince Aladdin to tell Jasmine the truth, but Aladdin decide to continue pretending to be Prince Ali, thinking that Jasmine would laugh at 'Aladdin'. He goes to visit Jasmine to try and get her to warm up to him, and after a rocky start he takes her on a magic carpet ride. However, she had guessed that he was the boy from the marketplace and confronts him. Aladdin keeps up the Prince Ali pretense, and tells he that he was just 'dressing as a commoner to escape palace life'.
After returning Jasmine home, Jafar captures Aladdin and has him thrown off a cliff into the ocean. He is saved by Genie, but he has to use up his second wish to do it. When he returns to the palace he finds that Jafar has enchanted the Sultan and convinced him that Jasmine should marry Jafar, and breaks Jafar's staff (and thus the enchantment). Jafar then escapes.
Jasmine announces that she has chosen 'Prince Ali', and the Sultan is delighted. Aladdin is too, until the Sultan mentions that Aladdin will become Sultan himself, and he starts to doubt himself. When he returns to Genie and the others, he tells Genie that he can't set him free because the only reason he's able to maintain the charade is because of Genie. But after Aladdin drives everyone off by yelling at them, he feels remorseful and decides to go and tell Jasmine the truth, leaving the lamp behind.
But before he can tell Jasmine, Aladdin is pushed in front of the cheering crowd of Agrabah. Then, Jafar appears - having had Iago steal the lamp, he has now wished to become Sultan. Jafar then also wishes to become the most powerful sorcerer in the world, reveals Aladdin's true identity, and banishes him to a frozen wasteland.
Using the magic carpet Aladdin is able to return to Agrabah, here he attempts to sneak in and steal the lamp while Jasmine attempts to distract Jafar by pretending to have fallen in love with him (as per Jafar's 'wish', which Genie couldn't actually grant). However, Jafar notices Aladdin and a skirmish over the lamp ensues, where Jasmine is imprisoned in an hourglass, Abu is turned into a toy, and Carpet is unravelled. Jafar transforms into a giant snake and traps Aladdin with his coils, but Aladdin tricks Jafar by reminding him that the Genie is more powerful that he is, and that Genie gave him his power - and thus can take it away. Agreeing with him, Jafar uses his last wish to become a Genie, not realising that this will result in him being enslaved and trapped in his own lamp. Jasmine is freed, and all of the others return to their normal form.
Aladdin still has one more wish though - and telling Jasmine that he can't keep being something he's not, he wishes Genie free. But, seeing how upset Jasmine and Aladdin are at not being able to be together, the Sultan announces that he will change the law and let the Princess marry whoever she chooses. (Naturally, she chooses Aladdin.)
Genie then flies off to celebrate his newfound freedom by traveling the world, and Aladdin and Jasmine celebrate with an engagement party.
Since then, both Aladdin and Jasmine have been trying to adapt to the changes in their lives (and have a proper relationship).
